LSU Poem

LSU Poem

Twenty four days before Christmas, in a state in the south,
Les Miles was pissed as he opened his mouth.
“Miles to Michigan ,” was reported as fact.
To which Miles responded, “Herbie, you don’t know jack!”

The Tigers had suffered a gut wrenching loss,
At the hands of McFadden and the rest of the hogs.
And Bo in his sweatshirt, and Miles in his Hat.
Were determined to prove they were better than that!

When the Tennessee Vols ran out on the field,
There were ruckus applause from the mentally ill.
Still in the locker room, Les told his team,
“This season ain’t over. We still have a dream.”

The hurt throwing arm of QB Matt Flynn
Meant Ryan was the man they put their faith in.
Then the fans all heard, what Les said in the Dome.
“I ain’t goin’ anywhere. I’m happy. I’m Home!”

The fans were still thinking “This might be a trick.”
‘til someone pointed out “Hey, this guy ain’t Nick!”
The Hat took the field for this championship game,
And he brought all his Tigers, and called them by name;

“Now, Hester! Now, Early! Now, Highsmith and Putt!
Let’s let ‘er rip and shut these guys up!
Take to the field! And give it your all!
Then later we’ll watch numbers 1 & 2 fall.”

The fans still weren’t sure as to what team would show,
The Virginia Tech game seemed like so long ago.
But there in the stands, the fans they did cheer,
As Perrilloux played his game of the year.

While out in Ar-Kansas, the hogs claimed the boot,
The tigers were focused on far better loot.
With the game knotted up, Ainge threw a quick out
But Zenon was ready and took six to the house.

He wore a LSU jacket, and a white turtle neck,
The same as he wore when his team beat La Tech.
With the hat on his head, and a childish grin,
Miles put his team in the title picture again.

His smile-how it widened! as Pitt won its game!
He cheered Oklahoma , when it did the same.
The stars were aligning, it couldn’t be true.
Turns out Miles WAS destined, to play O-S-U.

With a month to prepare and a month to heal up,
We’re all pretty sure which team will show up.
He ain’t going to Michigan , and we’re sure of that.
But Tressel and the Buckeyes should still Fear the Hat.

On December first, he called L-S-U home.
Then set up the Tigers, to play again in the Dome.
It soon will be legend, how Les started that day,
“Can’t talk now. . . . I’m busy. . . . [Y’all] have a GREAT day!”

Tiger District

Hey Tiger Alumnus!

Across from the Chimes, in the heart of Baton Rouge is an LSU Merchandise Store, Tiger District, selling everything you could want as an LSU Tiger fan. We've had some demand from relocated alumni so we recently launched a new website, www.tigerdistrict.com. If you visit the website you'll see that we also sell gameday t-shirts as well as hats, which is where you and your alumni association can benefit.

You, each member of your alumni association, as well as your friends can order t-shirts, or any other merchandise, and in the comment box tell us with which city's alumni you're associated. We at the Tiger District will give back 10% on each purchase to your city's association for each comment we receive. With that you can make money and get great merchandise. And this is perfect for the holiday season!

We are counting on you, as an officer of your alumni association, to tell other members about this offer so that your organization can benefit. If you have any questions or comments email us back, visit the website and leave a comment, or even give us a call at the store at 225.346.4790.

Thanks and we look forward to hearing from you at www.tigerdistrict.com.

Something to remember... and be proud of.

Here's a video presentation representing the efforts of LSU, its faculty, staff, athletes, and Baton Rouge in aiding evacuees and victims of Hurricane Katrina.

More than sports, the Tigers are a source of pride and strong values and we love them for it.

Local Tiger Bar & Grill with taste of home

Here's a note to our Pres from a local restaurateur--

Map to Baymeadows and 9A

-----

Hello Gene,

Yes, at Times Grill, we are proud to serve the Tiger Burger in our restaurants everyday. It is a crowd favorite and features our World Famous half pound burger topped with cheese fries, crumbled bacon and shaved red onions. Most guests enjoy it with an icy cold Abita draft. Now, wouldn’t that be the perfect LSU gameday meal?

If you are not familiar with Times Grill, let me tell you a little about us. Our restaurant was founded in 1994 in Louisiana and we now have locations in Mandeville, Slidell and Baton Rouge. Our founder and CBO (Chief Burger Officer), Shearn Lemoine, is an LSU grad and, therefore, a die-hard LSU fan. (Not to mention the fact that every Times Grill teammate is Louisiana cheers on the Tigers.)

We recently opened restaurants in Jacksonville and Pensacola, Florida. It would please us greatly if you would consider our Jacksonville restaurant as your home for alumni club meetings and to watch the games. We have lots of flat screens in our bar and dining room. We are conveniently located at Baymeadows and 9A.

I have attached our menu to whet your appetite. I really do look forward to speaking with you soon. Thanks for your consideration.

Tiger Oath for 2007

Contributed by another faithful fan of the Tigers...

Lest we forget, here is the newly updated LSU Tiger Fan Oath. Please place your right hand on a photo of the dearly departed Mike V and repeat after me...

I, ________________, solemnly swear to do the following in 2007-08 to ensure that I remain a member of the most passionate, intimidating, and sometimes scary fan base known to mankind.

I agree to DO the following:

1. I will always cheer for LSU in sound levels that would make a banshee proud.... and deaf. I will agree to do this whether in Tiger Stadium, at an opposing stadium, in front of a TV, at a bar/restaurant, or at a friend's/family member's wedding/funeral with strategically placed ear phones. I will also cheer like a rabid dog running rabbits whenever "The Golden Band From Tiger Land" plays their pre-game opening notes that send chills up my spine and make the visiting fans cower in abject fear!

2. I will wear purple and gold to games. I will NOT, however, under any circumstances wear purple and gold camouflage overalls, pants, or hats.....except if you are from Calcasieu or Beauregard Parishes. (You do still have to wear pants, Billy!)

3. Speaking of not wearing camouflage overalls, don't wear overalls at all. If that's all you own, you might need to examine the fact that you might be a Mississippi St. fan or a member of Dexy's Midnight Runners. (that last one should date you pretty well if you think they're one of those "mod" bands!!)

4. I will continue to tailgate in a way that is representative of my school's perennial National Champions of Tailgating title. This means good food, good music, lots of alcohol, and great people.

5. When tailgating, I will not devote more time to a centerpiece than I do for preparing food. If this is the case, I might as well become an Ole Miss fan. They are big believers of style without substance.

6. I will invite visiting fans to our tailgate spot and give them a hard time before taking them in as one of our own, feeding them, and getting them drunk.

7. I will NOT act in a way that promotes the negative stereotype that LSU has bad fans. "TIGER BAIT, TIGER BAIT, TIGER BAIT" is a perfectly good cheer that is in keeping with good fansmanship. F*#*A$%H&@S#^&*O#$%@@B!#***# does not constitute good anything!!

8. I will NOT boo our players while at games. I can boo college coaches and NFL players and coaches but NOT college kids. Remember, if they don't receive a paycheck, I can't boo them. I can, however, boo Alabama players because they all get paid and Saban's fate is in his own hands.

9. I will not leave a game before the 5 min. mark in the 4th qtr unless LSU is up by 21 or more, and I/someone with me is: vomiting, bleeding, and/or stricken with hysterical blindness. Beating traffic is not a viable excuse until I reach age 40.....Let's make that 80!!!

10. I will continue to believe that Mike the Tiger's roaring before a game has everything to do with his school spirit and nothing to do with a human in a tiger costume that Mike can't stand. I also pray that we have a Mike VI before the home game kick-off and that he has the roar down pat!

11. I will stop trying to start a wave. Waves are for soccer or Tulane fans, and are only permitted if LSU is up by +35.

12. I will cheer for our team on offense but only when the play is over, the team needs to be able to hear when in the huddle and when lining up for the snap. On defense, I will constantly scream at the top of my lungs, like Lindsay Lohan just out of rehab...again, and again, and again....

Game notes:
A terrible 3-7 loss to the Tigers of Auburn. Two inexplicable pass interference calls - one in the endzone that should've been called on Auburn, and a call on the pass to Doucet that was waved off by the officials after a review.
(There are rules about balls tipped at the line of scrimmage that cannot be ruled pass interference. Makes no sense to us when the player is touching or grabbing on the receiver and it's a catchable ball.)

The next game is going to be our homecoming - It's gonna be LSU vs. Tulane. The Chapter will once again be gathering
at Dick's Wings & Grille in Tinseltown. The game is scheduled for kickoff at 8:00 pm EST, so we will begin gathering around 7:30. We will be watching the game on TigerVision in the atrium.
